Homemade Bird Cake

What you need:

Yoghurt pots

String (30cm)

Scissors

Mixing bowl

Wooden spoon and your fingers!

Bird seed

Raisins

Grated cheese

Lard

What to do:

Make a small hole in the bottom of a yoghurt pot. (We would advise that a grown up does this for the child)

Thread your piece of string through the hole in the pot and tie a knot on the inside.

Let the lard warm to room temperature (but don’t melt it!)

Then cut it up into small pieces and put it in your mixing bowl.

Add the other ingredients to the bowl and mix them together - using your fingertips works best!

Continue to add the seeds/raisins/cheese and squash it until the fat keeps it all together.

Fill up your yoghurt pots with the mixture and put them in the fridge to set for an hour.

Once set, remove the bird cake from the pots by sliding them out

Then hang your bird cakes around your garden to tempt your feathered friends.
